Naleemiah Institute Celebrates Founders’ Day
The Naleemiah Institute of Islamic Studies (Jamiah Naleemiah), founded by the late Naleem Hajiyar in 1973 at Beruwela China Fort, celebrated Founders’ Day on Sunday, February 11, 2024, as part of a series of programmes marking its fiftieth anniversary. The event was organised by Jamiah Naleemiah and the Rabitha An-Naleemiyyeen Beruwala Region (Alumni Association of Jamiah Naleemiah).
This historic celebration featured four significant events: the release of a commemorative postage stamp marking 50 years of Naleemiah’s educational journey, the inauguration of the Solar Power Project donated by Hon. Alhaj Marjan Faleel, M.P., the launch of the book titled “Jamiah Naleemiah Kalapeedam: Ennakkaruwum Thotramum” (Tamil – Jamiah Naleemiah Institute: Concept and Emergence) authored by Ash-sheikh M.J.M. Arafath Careem, Senior Lecturer, Jamiah Naleemiah, and the presentation of tokens of appreciation to 47 founding members and senior committee members of Jamiah, honouring their dedication.
Hon. Al- haj Marjan Faleel, M.P., graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, along with Al-haj Yakooth Naleem, President of the Society and Board of Management of Jamiah Naleemiah, as the Special Guest, and Ustadh A.C. Agar Mohamed, Rector of Jamiah Naleemiah, as the Guest of Honour. Notable attendees included Hon. Faiz Mustafa, PC, a member of Jamiah Naleemiah’s Board of Governors, and Hon. Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, Member of Parliament. Officials from the Sri Lanka Philatelic Bureau also graced the ceremony.
Founding members present were honoured and received mementos, while those who had passed away were remembered, and mementos were received by their family members on their behalf.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, Ulamas, Jamiah lecturers, officials, people of the area, well-wishers, and students of Jamiah Naleemiah.
