Jamiah Naleemiah Celebrates Golden Jubilee and 11th General Convocation
Jamiah Naleemiah celebrated its Golden Jubilee and General Convocation with a grand ceremony on 24th June 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). The event was attended by religious leaders, distinguished members of parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, prominent community leaders, dedicated well-wishers, proud alumni of Jamiah Naleemiah, and parents of the graduates. Their presence added to the significance of the occasion and showcased the wide-ranging support and admiration for the Institute.
The ceremony commenced with a vibrant parade, as students, staff, and esteemed guests filled the hall with a sense of unity and pride. The atmosphere resonated with devotion as the Qirath, a soul-stirring recitation from the Holy Quran, echoed through the venue, followed by the National Anthem.
Alhaj Yakooth Naleem, President of Jamiah Naleemiah, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the Institute’s remarkable achievements and expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to its success.
The momentous occasion reached its zenith with the official declaration of the Golden Jubilee, signifying fifty years of unwavering commitment to Islamic Studies and Human Sciences. The esteemed chief guest, Hon. Faisz Musthapha, President’s Counsel, had the honour of pressing the button, marking the significant declaration and signalling the beginning of the celebratory milestone.
Usthaz Ash-sheikh A.C. Agar Mohamed, the Rector of Jamiah Naleemiah, captivated the audience with his inspiring address, urging the graduates to utilise their knowledge for the betterment of the society and country. A captivating video documentary chronicled the illustrious journey of Jamiah Naleemiah, showcasing its rich history, remarkable achievements, and significant contributions to Islamic Studies and Human Sciences.
Renowned scholar Prof. Ranjith Bandara MP delivered an insightful speech, shedding light on the profound significance of the occasion and the Institute’s substantial impact on society.
Following his speech, a video message from Hon. Ali Sabri (Minister of Foreign Affairs), the Guest of Honour, was screened, as he was unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances. In his heartfelt message, Hon. Ali Sabri discussed the historical legacy of Muslim education in Sri Lanka, acknowledging the significant role that Jamiah Naleemiah has held in providing quality Islamic education.
The ceremony continued with insightful speeches from Hon. Imthiyaz Bakeer MP, highlighting Jamiah Naleemiah’s commitment to fostering a responsible society. He emphasized the institute’s dedication to shaping individuals who positively contribute to the country. Hon. Rauff Hakeem MP further emphasised that “Jamiah Naleemiah” possesses the qualifications for university status, citing successful examples like the transformation of Vidyodaya and Vidhyalankara Privenas into Kelani and Sri Jayawardenapura Universities.
As part of the agenda, a documentary was screened, featuring heartfelt messages from some esteemed dignitaries in Sri Lanka. The documentary served as a testament to the Institute’s widespread recognition and the invaluable support it received from various esteemed individuals.
The Convocation Address was delivered by Prof. Renuka Silva, an esteemed academic, who eloquently motivated the graduates to utilise their acquired knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on society.
Hon. Faisz Musthapha PC, the Chief Guest, addressed the gathering. His speech served as a beacon of guidance for the graduates, encouraging them to pursue greatness in their future endeavours.
The ceremony reached its pinnacle with the conferment of degree, as 237 graduates were proudly awarded their well-deserved degree, symbolising a significant milestone in their academic journey.
Expressing gratitude to all attendees, a Vote of Thanks and a heartfelt prayer concluded the event, seeking blessings for the graduates as they embarked on their future paths.
